When Big Media Met Little Media

In the Why Do They Bother, They'll Never Be Cool category (kinda like Republicans), the Atlanta Press Club will host the anchor of a MSM show called i-Caught. According to their press release...

(Bill) Weir is host of ABC’s new hit show, i-Caught, the newsmagazine for the YouTube generation. It is based on user-generated Internet video and the stories behind them. It airs Tuesday nights, 9-10 p.m."

I-Neverheardofit, but I do plan to be at the APC's newsmaker luncheon to hear more of MSM's outrageous spinning of their gluttonous success-i. Last one I went to though was, giving panel, the hideous Art Harris, of some ultra-hideous, blow-a-celeb show, this blog, and sometimes CNN.

With genuine pride and glory, mixed with this utterly contrived and feigned I'z just doin' the peoples bid-ness self-preservation shuck and jive, Harris was downtown at the Commerce Club showing-off his exclusive interviews with some jail-housed relation, in the utter stinking shit heap that was the Anna Nicole death and re-death coverage. There's turd polishing and then there's Art Harris, who just smears the reeking fecal matter all over himself and wanders around like it's Chanel N°5 he's wearing.

I'm still ashamed and furious at myself that I sat through a reeking video presentation of his glorification of scum-celebrity culture (i.e."exclusives") without standing up and yelling, "Get that disgusting celeb-stink out of my face, you shameless bald-headed Big TV freak."

MSM Visitation

I used to do MSM editorials quite regularly. Not so much since I started blogging, because blogging is simply a more expressive, more freewheeling (my word du jour), more honest medium than the 19th century corset required for mainstream editorial consideration. Of course, lots of people think of blogging as dripping blood on the keyboard for all our knuckle dragging.

Anyways, don't feel like going down the same 'ole same 'ole garden path about blogging vs. MSM. There's a time and place and platform for whatever you need to say nowadays, and that's the good part. Let's focus on that. Here's today's AJC editorial, which is really nothing more than a blog entry cleaned-up for public consumption.

Another Atlanta blogger who excels at this blog-to-MSM process, although his typical blog posts aren't exactly written to inflame the senses, just sensibilities, is Leonard Witt, the go-to guy on citizen journalism issues in his blog, PJNet. Check it out when you can.

SoCon07

No, the AJC didn't bother to show, as I casually mention today in the Georgia Political Digest, but Amani Channel for MyUrbanReport was there to package the SoCon07 goodies. And MSM thinks we still need their sorry ass...

AJC = Arrogant Jerks Cornered

The more I think about it, the angrier I get at the astonishing level of arrogance flung all over the place by AJC management last week. Leonard Witt, from the Communications Dept. at Kennesaw State University, points out that not a single person from the AJC, from any department nor in any capacity, even bothered to show-up at SoCon07, Atlanta's first social media conference on February 10th.

Not one person showed from Atlanta's "traditional" media, not even a lone AJC reporter to cover the event as the new media enterprise that it was. (And yes, they were all invited.) Shit, we at SoCon07 had editorial and photos out to the entire planet during the freakin' conference, you clueless AJC nits. Video and podcasts were soon posted too. Yet the AJC in the now infamous "Wallace Memo" has the downright gall to claim:

“Online, we will show that we know Atlanta best, providing superlative news and information and becoming the preferred medium for connecting local communities.”

What planet are these people living on, other than Planet Head Up A Donkey's Ass!?!

As I mentioned on comments to the APC's blog (as of 2007, they now have a blog. Isn't that special?), that very thing has been happening online… for, oh, about 15 years now. Hope the charlatans at the AJC aren't too surprised if no one really WANTS to be associated with their “preferred medium.” We’ve built our own just fine by now, thank you very much, you old media clowns.

So don't go asking a blogger what the Semantic Web is all about. We're too busy moving forward to be slowed down and bothered by wannabees in MSM.
