Great Whirlwind Atlanta History Interview

Rusty does the honors when he podcasts/catches up with Boyd Lewis here on The Georgia Podcast Network. Boyd, a former 70's Atlanta media-man-about-town, blew through town from his current crib in L.A. to pimp-out a happening reception for a showing of his 70's Atlanta photos. Previously blogged about on the SGR. (Wish I'd video-d the scene-making crowd of old and young hipsters of all flavors who populated the popular reception. It was really an Atlanta arts, entertainment, media, and politics Who's Who event. I caught only the very tail end of the bash, though. My bad.)

Podcast is here for listening/downloading. Don't miss this one! It's filled with verbal bon motes about Atlanta such as Grant Park when it was a "Victorian slum." Some delicious CL dissing too!

Je Suis Tres Peturbed

Wonder me this… if I sent Sonny a podcast of my precious little APS rising second-grader speaking French with that fabulous tres authetic accent she now has, thanks to her brief stint of foreign language training with a real teacher, would he consider returning funding for elementary school foreign language classes back to the budget?

Precious Angel really did learn a ton of French last year, more than I ever did as a high schooler in the South Carolina public education system, I can safely say. (Yeah, yeah. I hear ya… “that’s not saying much!”)

I promise to make Sonny’s podcast more, uh, respectable than this one here. But it only comes in English because I, again, was a product of the public educational system, and I never did learn me up no foreign languages. But hey, at least I can blog.

What Planet Did I Land On?

So I went to see this man about a dog. A Social Media Club dog. And came up with a not so nice pat on the head. I am still feeling like the dirtiest whore on the planet for having sitted through the whole mainstream media "presentation" at WSB just smiling and nodding. Just like a good, stupid southern girl is taught to do.

Rusty, Amber and my post-spin rooftop podcast on the utter and endless bullshit is here. I am still shaking my head with astonishment that I let myself be led so far down that yellow brick road.

Of White Boys, Beer, Legs and Lipflap

Despite my best effort to screw-up this first attempt to broadcast live broadband TV, I managed to make a few minutes worth. Alert the media! They're not going to be happy to hear that you don't need networks of TV stations, staffs herded by a megalomaniacal hierarchy, microwave trucks, satellites, 100K cameras and a 401K plan to make live TV occur anymore. Heck, I just borrowed a mic from Rusty, used my kid and Shelby The Rocket Scientist for PAs, and voila... live shows and a pony for everyone!

If you're into white guys' pale legs sitting around rapping about GA politics, this is the show for you. It's all up hill from here at least.

The Real Georgia Gang

I know you're itching to survey the political scene in Georgia, but you sure don't want to turn on that icky TV and have Dick Williams' little bow tie annoy the bejeezus out of you. Try a Georgia Politics podcast with your morning grits and iPod, instead. This podcast episode includes -- me! And chatter about: Sonny, GA Republican squabbling, The 10th Congressional special election, and New Media impacting the local political process. Enjoy.

Blog entry about New Media turned into quickie column for Georgia Political Digest too.

What Is Going On?

Wilson Smith's What Is Going On? radio show out of Lyons, Georgia had me back in March for more yadayadayada. Brave man. This time I turn-up the southern accent full blast to rap about all things New Media. And Erick at Peach Pundit, Nicorette, Blog For Democracy, Hillary's fake southern accent, YouTubing mistakes, Technorati rankings, and of course Grift's gambling "issues." (As if we really knew anything about that. No matter, Wilson and I just like to make stuff up.)

As I told Rusty, "It's Wilson Smith's world. We're just Twittering in it." Thanks for Twittering the podcast, Rusty. Most kind of you.

Committing News Is Better Than Covering It

Here's a podcast of my Old Media session from PodCamp. Not my best. I was kinda hungover and just a little snippy. Imagine that.

My dear New Media Jim is out at VON committing small TV. Here's his coverage of VON. Amani's there too, who, last time I checked Jim's channel, was busy interviewing Jeff Jarvis. How cool is that?!

FYI... the search term Podcamp Atlanta was at #8 on Technorati yesterday. (Screen shot capture from Amber.) Just under SXSW and not far from Paris Hilton. But remember, it's not news-worthy for Atlanta until Cox Plantation says it's news. Currently, PodCamp Atlanta is #14 on Technorati's search terms.

Podcast For Georgia Political Digest

Here's my latest Georgia Political & Policy Digest editorial as a podcast: At The AJC It's Do As We Say, Not As We Do. Assorted other local and politically-flavored podcasts of mine are available through GAPN here. Thanks so much, Rusty and Amber, for podcasting this via the GAPN.

GAPN and GPPD -- two homegrown, Atlanta online organizations I'm very proud to be associated with! Insert big Rebel Yell here.

Social Circle Seeds and Stems

SCAD student photogs will have their due, and opening reception, tonight at DeFoor Center at 7pm. See you there.

My Urban Report, my new fave small TV show, other than TrueGritz of course, is here. Amani is really good. Just damn fine production value at work. As a producer, my hat's off. Met Amani at SoCon07, FYI. (This guy's your "community" future, Miss Julia, hon.)

Some of my favorite, local, politically-minded menz-yappers go all out on the latest Georgia Politics podcast. This time they get woofing on: our (archaic) blue laws, health care, education, vouchers, and Sonny P. All they're missing is... well... me.

Changing Local News Coverage

WKRN Nashville goes to an all videoblogging format, and in the process decides to ignore the bleeding bodies lying in the street that pass for news coverage, here in Atlanta fer sure. What ghouls.

In a way, this WKRN effort is a throwback to old style coverage, as Allen Facemire, a longtime network news DP, reminded me with this note:
Interesting. When I first started in TV in Jacksonville, FL that’s the way it was. They hired reporters and taught them how to shoot basic stories. No sound, just a basic visual illustrating the story points. I had no problem with it. Now of course you are expected to do talkies and it’s a bit more complicated, technology wise... yet people are doing it in the independent doco world every day. Would they do better if there was a team... perhaps, but sometimes dreams have to be built alone!

Videoblogging represents a whole other (editorial) level though, and Amber and Rusty at the Georgia Podcast Network took time and effort to visit WKRN and talk to some of the staff about the videoblogging format. Here's that podcast.

Around The Bend

ADD ON: Rusty and Amber, co-creators of the Georgia Podcast Network, just won a Creative Loafing "Best of Atlanta" award. A million congratulations to you guys!! Air kisses all around. And lots of bubbly too, when we can share. (Can you sneak me in to the "Best Of" party?) Just goes to show that innovation, creativity, hard-ass work, long hours and self-belief/preservation always win out.

This is the entry where I'd apologize for yesterday's outburst over Amanda Congdon's un-inspired sellout. But since I'm not the least bit sorry, I'll move on.

In a sec... it's just that I had such high hopes for Ms. Amanda. She had this Mary Tyler Moore, kinda zany, kinda wacky, kinda cute and sweet, and always very bright and smart quality. Still does. But even a pro like Jeff Jarvis couldn't help being taken aback when he saw that hybrid car she was "tripping" about in. The camera told all.

Meanwhile, back at Rancho ATL, the state fair's going on, so I gotta go just to get Sas one of these, with a unicorn of course. See below.

Lordy, I'd say I'm pre-menopausal as I've been emotionally so all over the place this morning. But since I've got the Hemi version of a reproductive system, that's not the case. Must be just pure, natural moodiness. I've gone from laughing my ass off at Tania's and Jen's multi-media antics to crying, again, over one of TR's poems. She's just that good. I'm such a girl. Thank God.

Georgia Podcast Network, Y'all

A cool, techno-minded Atlanta couple, Amber and Rusty (yes, they are smarter than you, especially combined) has created the Georgia Podcast Network. Many long hard days after working hours were surely put in to get this service up and running, so stop by often to support this dream home team.

Better yet, get your own podcast going and put out on the GPN. (Need help? Don't panic because my new co., WaySouth Media, will be ready to help any day now.)

Rusty blogs here. Amber here. And that gal sure can write! But not for the simple-minded, easily offended reader. Consider yourself warned.

Rusty and Amber will be podcasting the Kos appearance at Manuel's tomorrow night. See below entry for more details, and see you there.
